THE SPIRIT IS WILLING…THE FLESH IS WEAK

Then He came to the disciples and found them sleeping, and said to Peter, “What! Could you not watch with Me one hour?  Watch and pray, lest you enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.” Matthew 26:40‭-‬41 NKJV.  Peter and the apostles intended to pray with Jesus for one hour. They discovered that it was harder to do than they thought. A lot of things Jesus did were harder than the disciples thought. The Lord continually tried to get them to shore up their faith. For the good that I will to  do, I do not do; but the evil I will not to  do, that I practice. Now if I do what I will not to  do, it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells in me. Romans 7:19‭-‬20 NKJV. How often do we completely drop the ball. We want to be holy, pure, loving, peaceful etc. But we find that these traits are the the last thing we do. The Apostle Paul wrote 13 books of the New Testament. He was a powerful evangelist who made several tedious and dangerous missionary journeys. Yet he found that the flesh is weak. For a righteous man may fall seven times and rise again, Proverbs 24:16 NKJV Jesus Christ provides us with such a hope. The RIGHTEOUS fall seven times. But  they RISE again. No matter what’s going on in our lives we need to continue moving forward. Eternity in the presence of the Lord is our ultimate goal. Jesus experienced the very same temptations that we experience. No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it. I Corinthians 10:13 NKJV God is faithful ! He provides an escape. When we are tempted, we need to look for the escape. With the escape comes victorious living.

When Jesus heard this, he was amazed.

Jesus was always saddened by by the lack of faith in Israel. At times He was limited by the peoples' unbelief. The faith of the ROMAN centurion amazed Jesus.
